Aquinas College Wedding | Catie and Joey
For Catie and Joey’s Grand Rapids wedding, we decided to use the beautiful campus at Aquinas Collage for portraits at the start of the day. The couple had decided to do a first look and see each other before the ceremony which allowed us to have time for portraits in this great location and made it possible to go straight from the ceremony to the reception without keeping the guests waiting. Doing a first look really helps make the day flow more smoothly and I love it when my couples decide to go that way.
When Joey told me that he and each of his groomsmen would have a different Marvel superhero-themed shirt on on under their suits and that he wanted to get a photo featuring that, I knew I would want to do some sort of epic, larger-than-life dramatic photo. For this shot I used my flash to spotlight each guy and his shirt separately for that cool, surreal look.
Aquinas has a great mix of vintage buildings and nature that makes it a great spot for bride and groom portraits.
After finishing up with portraits we headed to the bride and groom’s church for the ceremony and reception. While Catie was hidden away before the start of the ceremony I took the opportunity to take one more beautiful portrait of her with the window light in the room.
I love the looks on Catie and Joey’s faces as her dad walks her down the aisle.
The bride and groom showed off some dance moves as they entered the reception.
There was lots of singing at the reception which started off with Catie and her girls peforming a song for her new husband.
Catie’s older brother presented Joey with a “Certificate of Little Brotherhood” which was greeted with much laughter from the guests and wedding party (and Joey!).
Finally the bride and groom made their grand exit to sparkler-waving fanfare.
